Traffic rules in the UK

UK

For vehicles not exceeding a maximum of 7.5 tonnes laden weight, following speed limits apply:

  • In built up areas: 48 km/h

  • Single carriage-ways: 80 km/h

  • Dual carriage-ways: 96 km/h

  • Motorways: 112 km/h (96 km/h if articulated or towing a trailer)

For vehicles exceeding a maximum of 7.5 tonnes laden weight, following speed limits apply:

  • In built up areas: 48 km/h

  • Single carriage-ways: 64 km/h

  • Dual carriage-ways: 80 km/h

  • Motorways: 96 km/h

Note: The 48 km/h limit usually applies to all traffic on all roads with street lighting unless signs show otherwise.
